The Core series

No-cost workshops and courses for youth ages 13–18 in Atlanta.

Reaching Early Creatives (REC) offers hands-on courses that teach students how to create music, write songs, and record in a studio setting. The Core Series helps young creatives develop technical skills, express themselves, and collaborate with others.

Program breakdown

  • A hands-on experience with beat construction, sequencing, and mixing.

    Beat Basics 101

    A lot of you, and a little machine! There’s no right or wrong way to make a beat, as long as it's fun. 

    And The Beat Goes On (Beat Basics 102)

    Rhythm, Melody & Confidence. Empowering students to trust themselves and to be proficient in all programs taught in the first quarter. 

  • A deep-dive into the anatomy of writing hit songs.

    Power In The Pen 101

    The Anatomy, lyric vs melody & The It Factor. Helping students find their voice, (Hit Song).

    Power In The Pen 102

    The Anatomy, lyric vs melody & The It Factor. Teaching students how to properly utilize tips and techniques presented in quarter one to improve their songwriting ability.

  • A interactive course on recording and mixing industry standard sessions.

    Get On Track 101

    Signal, Gain, Vocal Control, EQ, Arrangement, and Delivery. Instructing students on how to get the most out of the artist, your session and getting the most of your gear. 

    Get On Track 102

    Signal, Gain, Vocal Control, Eq, Arrangement, Delivery.

Chemistry

A creative collaboration between students from all three tracks.
Students work together to produce a full song, combining their beat making, songwriting, and recording skills. This quarter emphasizes teamwork and creative synergy.

Application

Live performance of the collaborative project.
Students prepare to present their work on stage. Focus areas include preparation, stage presence, energy, and professionalism.

We accept up to 10 students per class to keep the experience focused and hands-on. Sessions take place on Saturdays from 12 to 4 PM.

The Core Series Scholarship

Each season, REC awards a select group of standout students with a full scholarship to our Pro Tools Certification course. This opportunity is open to Core Series participants who show exceptional growth, consistency, and creativity throughout the program.

No extra application. No extra steps. Students are nominated by instructors based on attendance, participation, collaboration, and original work.

Scholarship recipients receive full tuition for REC’s Avid Certified | Pro Tools Specialist course, including materials and exam eligibility.
